Christmas Comes Early for Jamie 

Prestbury member Jamie Donaldson booked his place at the Masters and The Open next year after clinching a composed three-shot victory at the Thailand Golf Championship. He fired a sublime seven-under 65 to overhaul third-round leader Clement Sordet, while Lee Westwood closed with a 67 to snatch a tie for second which is expected to ensure his return to Augusta National in April.

Rory European Champion 

Rory McIlroy has picked up the European Tour Golfer of the Year award for the third time in four years. The 26-year-old from Northern Ireland enjoyed three tour victories in 2015 to win the Race to Dubai title ahead of Englishman Danny Willett. Victory in the season-ending World Tour Championship last month ensured McIlroy also won the Race to Dubai title for a third time in four years. Let's hope he can keep his form going into 2016.

 

Gearing up to Christmas, this is the best way to get your golf presents!!! 

Some of you have been taking advantage of our wonderful 'click and collect' service but we are not sure you all know about it. In case you are not aware of the click and collect system we want to give you a reminder. 

If you want to buy any golf equipment that we don't stock in the shop, for example Srixon balls are very popular, then just go onto my website http://www.nicksummerfield.co.uk  and use the click and collect icon. Once in you we be able to view everything available from the manufacturers I deal with, which is just about all of them. Simply buy the items from there and collect it in the shop a few days later. Easy Peasy.

 

'Puddle' On the 5th 

You may have noticed a bit of extra water on the 5th. With all the rain recently, it has not been able to drain and has caused a puddle which is starting to look like a small lake. A couple of you were a little unsure about the ruling when landing in and around it. This is not treated as a water hazard. Instead, it falls under the category of 'Abnormal Ground'

Rule 25-1 - Abnormal Ground 

a. Interference - An abnormal ground condition is casual water, ground under repair or a hole, cast or runway made by a burrowing animal, a reptile or a bird. Except when the ball is in a water hazard, relief without penalty is available from immovable obstructions and abnormal ground conditions when the condition physically interferes with the lie of the ball, your stance or your swing. You may lift the ball and drop it within one club-length of the nearest point of relief, but not nearer the hole than the nearest point of relief.

Casual Water 

'Casual Water' is any temporary accumulation of water on the course that is not in a water hazard and is visible before or after the player takes his stance. 

A ball is in casual water when it lies in or any part of it touches the casual water. 

c. Ball in Abnormal Ground Condition Not Found - It is a question of fact whether a ball that has not been found after having been struck toward an abnormal ground condition is in such condition. In order to apply the rule, it must be known for certain that the ball is in the abnormal ground condition. In the absence of such knowledge or certainty the player must proceed under rule 27-1 (Lost ball) 

Our advice would be when teeing off the 5th, as the puddle is not visible, one person should go ahead and can see whether the ball lands in the casual water or not.
