Happy New Year!!
This is our first newsletter of the New Year so we would like to wish everyone all best as we look forward to what's hopefully going to be another great year of golf!
We have a lot to look forward to this year in the world of golf. It is likely to be a golfing year like no other in living memory. The return of the sport to the Olympics means a crowded schedule. Furthermore, 2016 is a Ryder Cup year with the United States probably boasting a side emblematic of a new generation less haunted by so many recent defeats. September's running of the biennial clash between Europe and America is one of the big highlights in what promises to be an enticing year to come. And of course we have all four majors to looks forward to, where this year it's looking like it's going to be an scintillating 3 way battle between McIlroy, Day and Spieth, we can't wait!
2016 also brings the long awaited rule change with anchoring your putter. From 1 January 2016 all golfers are prohibited from anchoring the club either "directly" or by use of an "anchor point" in making a stroke. The penalty is loss of hole in match play or two strokes in stroke play. We don't fully agree with this rule being issued for all levels of golf. We feel it is fair enough to change the law on the tour where it seems some players are getting an unfair advantage. But for the everyday golfer, who likes to anchor, it just seems a little unfair to expect them to change their putter or putting technique so drastically.
Cost Price Sale!
As we've got all the new stock for 2016 coming in over the next couple of months, and we only have a small shop, we need to make some room! As a result, everything must go!
Pretty much everything left in the shop is on sale at cost price. This includes shoes, clubs, bags and all clothing and accessories. Don't miss out as the sale will only run through January and whilst stock lasts.
This is also a chance to mention the new stock coming in. We've got clothing from Daily Sports, Green Lamb and Foot Joy all on the way, and not to mention the new clubs coming in March which we are really excited about. Be on the lookout because you're not going to want miss out.
On the 2nd of January we had our first gent's comp of the year, an AMAM Stableford and it was a very tight one at the top. In 3rd place were Neil Bridge, Conrad O'Neil and Ken Jee with 76 points, they were very narrowly beaten by Steve Kimber, Graham Wagster and David Aitchison who also scored 76 but came just ahead on a card play-off. These scores were only beaten by Mike Forbes, Simon Moorehouse and Eamon Smith who won the competition with 77 points. Well done to all the people in the prizes for the first comp of 2016.
This competition counted towards the winter order of merit, so we thought we would show how things are looking at the top of the leaderboard.
1st Conrad O'Neil - 37
2nd Peter Lowe - 32
3rd David Aitchison - 30
4th Simon Moorehouse - 26
