Spring Invitation 4BBB
On Saturday we had our Spring Invitation 4 Ball Better Ball. We had some great scores in on Saturday. Steve Cheetham and his guest, M. Towns, managed a great score of 43 points which was only good enough for 3rd place. A further shot ahead was Martin Jackson and his partner, A Boyd, but out in front with a great score of 44 was Tom Kirk and his guest A. Hewitt.
Ladies Par Competition
On Tuesday the ladies played in a Par competition and were split into two divisions. In Division 2 we had Kirsten Forbes and Jill Kimber coming in 2nd and 3rd respectively, both scoring 0, with Adrienne Wood winning the division with a great score of 2.
In Division 1, Victoria Howarth came in 3rd with a score of 0 and was narrowly beaten by Patricia Hunt who scored 1. However, out in front and joint 1st overall was Jillian Morris with a great score of 2.
Well done to all our winners in the comps over the last week!
McIlroy back to his best?
Rory McIlroy secured his first win of the season by producing a dramatic finale in the Irish Open, his home tournament, at the K Club. McIlroy trailed Scotland's Russell Knox by one shot with three holes to play but outstanding second shots at the 16th and 18th helped him to the birdie and eagle, which saw him win by three.
He shot a 69 to end on 12 under to clinch his first success in six months. "To finish like I did is something I'll never forget," said McIlroy.
Knox shared second place with Welshman Bradley Dredge, who fired a 66. McIlroy, 27, had missed the cut at the last three Irish Opens, but his win secured him the first prize of £515,000. He plans to donate that money to his charity, the Rory Foundation, which hosted the event. McIlroy's last victory came at the World Tour Championship in Dubai in November, a win that clinched him the Race to Dubai title.
Ahead of the Football European Championships McIlroy met with the Northern Ireland team on his trip to his home country. Northern Ireland's Euro 2016-bound footballers are given a golfing clinic by four-time major winner. The world number three from Holywood gave NI manager Michael O'Neill and the players a few tips after his Irish Open success at the K Club. McIlroy is a keen Northern Ireland fan and plans to fly in for the final Euro 2016 group game against Germany in Paris.
