On Saturday the 28th May we had our club championship 36-hole competition. This was a Scratch Medal along with a subsidiary net medal. In the scratch comp James Newton came in 3rd place scoring 71 and 75 to make a very good total of 146. Richard Lowery scored 146 but shot a fantastic 70 on his 2nd round which was the best round of the day to come in 2nd place. However, Joe Armitt showed incredible consistency by shooting a 71 and a 72 to win the comp with an impressive total of 143. In the subsidiary medal Jeremiah Hayes came in the 3rd with a total of 142, Richard Lowery came in 2nd with 140 and Elliot Kirton won the comp with a great score of 139.
The following Monday we had the Millennium Club Mixed Foursomes Medal. Kirk and Karen Gallaway came in 3rd place with a decent score of 76.5. Quite a bit further ahead of them we had Norman and Gill Buxton who scored a great score of 72.0. This was just beaten by Paul Allen and Elaine Fawkes who managed the same score but won the comp on a card play-off. Here they are pictured with the captain after collecting their winner's prize.
The following Tuesday the ladies played in a Coronation Foursomes Stableford on what was a lovely morning. Margaret Simons and V. Howarth came in 3rd with a score of 33 points. Sylvia Brough and Chris Angrave narrowly beat them on a card play-off with the same score. However, just out in front with a score of 34 points were Angela Riordan and Jane Campaigne.
Well done to all our winners in the competitions over the last week!!
Spieth ends his 'drought'
Jordan Spieth dazzled with his short game in a final round of 65 to win the Colonial by three strokes in Fort Worth, Texas on Sunday. The American posted his eighth victory on the PGA Tour and his first in his home state, in the process passing a Tiger Woods mark and achieved his triumph wrapping up with three birdies. His back nine included six birdies and came in the third tournament since the world No 2 blew a five-stroke lead on the final nine holes last month when trying to win the Masters for the second year in a row. He will try to defend his US Open title in three weeks. Only Horton Smith (14) won more tour events by the age of 22 or younger. Woods won seven by the same age. Spieth reached the mark in emphatic fashion with a closing 65 to finish at 17-under-par 263 at Colonial Country Club, keeping ahead of Harris English.
This win means that the 'big three' (Day, Spieth and McIlroy) have all won on their last outing...let the battle for the US Open commence.
US Open Fantasy League Part 2 - The US Open
Just like we did for the Masters we are continuing our major's fantasy league.
The competition is FREE to enter and you will be able to pick 3 different players for each Major, one from each pot.
The scoring for each event is 1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2points etc. However should your pick miss the cut he will get 100 points. The winner will be the person with the lowest points tally from all 4 Majors.
The winner will be announced after the US PGA Championship on August 1st and will receive their prize after that date.
If you did not enter the Masters sweepstake you still have the chance to win a prize as the winner of this major will be given a free sleeve of balls. So there is no harm in coming down and having a go!
