Greetings golfers,

On Saturday we had the Captain's Charity Golf Day and over the weekend we saw some of the best weather we have seen all year. The field was split into 2 divisions. In Division 2 Neil Bridge, Richard Johnson and Daniel Farrer came in 3rd, ,2nd and 1st place respectively all shooting 36 points, though Daniel did very well to score 20 points on the back 9 to win the Division on a card play-off.

In Division 1 we had some even better scores. In the 3rd place scoring 38 points was Paul Allen. In 2nd place following on from his win last week and clearly in great form was Elliot Kirton with 39 points. But in first place with a fantastic 40 points was Matthew Sorrigan.

The following Tuesday the ladies had their Invitation day. This was a great day and we had 76 ladies taking part, split into 19 teams of 4. In third place we had Jane Campaigne, Celia Stanley, Gill Mellor and J. Howard who scored 80 points along with a couple others but they just made the prizes thanks to a good back 9 holes. A further 4 points ahead with 84 points in 2nd place were Sylvia Brough, Chirs Finney, Margaret Fairhurst and J Kennion. But out in front with a great score of 87 points were Angie Riordan, Margaret Jordan, Jill Morris and Penny Clarke. Here they are pictured with the Lady Captain after collecting there winners prizes.

Well done to all our winners in last week's competitions!

Tour news

US Open at Oakmont

The course opened 113 years ago in 1903. It straddles the Allegheny River Valley and uniquely has virtually no water hazards, and almost no trees. With a USGA course rating of 77.5 and some two hundred bunkers it is generally regarded in the golf community as one of the most difficult in the United States. It features large, extremely fast, and undulating greens. All are original but the 8th, which was moved several yards to the left to make way for the Pennsylvania Turnpike in the late 1940s.

Originally a links course, trees were added in the 1950s-1960s. Most were removed beginning after the 1994 U.S. Open. Some more trees have been taken away for this year's tournament, but otherwise not too many changes. It will be a very tough course for the players to make under par and we may see some horror cards, which is accustomed to the US Open. Anyone breaking level par will put themselves in the running to take the title this year.

US Open Fantasy League
Part 2 - The US Open

Just like we did for the Masters we are continuing our major's fantasy league.

The competition is  FREE to enter and you will be able to pick 3 different players for each Major, one from each pot.

The scoring for each event is 1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2points etc. However should your pick miss the cut he will get 100 points. The winner will be the person with the lowest points tally from all 4 Majors.

The winner will be announced after the US PGA Championship on August 1st and will receive their prize after that date.

If you did not enter the Masters sweepstake you still have the chance to win a prize as the winner of this major will be given a free sleeve of balls. So there is no harm in coming down and having a go!

Come into the shop for more information.
