Greetings golfers,

This week I am pleased to start the newsletter with the latest addition to the Summerfield Clan!

This is Eleanor Grace who was born last week on the 8th June weighing in at an impressive 4lb 8oz!!!

Mother and baby are both doing well and I am sure dad is enjoynig his paternity leave.

Ellie is the first Summerfield to be born into our family for 22 years and hopefully she won't be the last.

Tour news

This week we have the US Open starting on a Course That Stands the Test of Time

Oakmont Country Club was founded in 1903 and has hosted many Championships over the years. It is consistently rated in the top 10 courses in America and it will be interesting to see what it plays like when the best players in the world get to grips with it on Thursday. Having seen glimpses it looks like a typical USGA setup and level par will be a good score.

Personally I don't like seeing the best players struggle to the extent they do but also I don't want to see them finish 20 under par.

Hopefully our own Jamie Donaldson will go well and be there on Sunday afternoon!!

Course news

Last week saw the weather play havoc with the course again (obviously summer has been and gone) The gents should have been playing the Jubilee Vase which is a major competition but unfortunately I had to suspend play before making the decision to abandon the competition due to the course becoming unplayable due to rain. However a number of competitors had already returned scores with Josh Garside and Adam Cockerill posting nett 68's and Russell Gardner, Brian Leatherbarrow (with his new custom built Callaway clubs) and Julian Ross who all had nett 69's.

Due to the competition being a major the event has to be replayed (watch this space) but the scores returned do count towards handicap apart from the fact that it is reductions only.

Competition news

On Sunday we hosted a mixed invitation greensome stableford and leading the way with 35 points was Garry Titchen and his partner Amanda O'Brien of Wilmslow, in 2nd place was Doug McNair and his partner Karen Sutton from Newcastle Under Lyme with 34 points and tying 3rd with 33 points were the Lady Captain and David Molyneux from Delamere, Steve Hall and Victoria Byron-Foy from Dunscar and Karen Galloway and Ian Schofield from Bramhall.

The ladies this week played their 36 hole medal and 18 hole subsidiary medal but the results will be published next week as there was no presentation.

However it does give me the opportunity to wish Gill Usher congratulations on her hole in one at the 10th. Here she is pictured with husband Richard who will be a member in a couple of weeks.

The last bit of competition news is that the sheet for Captains Day is now in the shop as it is full and we have a few people on the reserve list already. These players have priority should a time become vacant.

Shop news

New Bags

We've got some lovely new bags from Titleist in this week.

Ranging from a super lightweight carry bag to just hold a few clubs to a full waterproof cart bag with all the compartments you need to organise your round of golf.

With the way the weather is going the Aqua dry bags are flying out!

Finally this week a picture of Nanna and Ellie.

I have a feeling that our first grandchild might be a little spoilt
