Competition news

On Saturday we had one of our majors, the Jubilee Vase in the form of a medal competition. We had some decent scores in, with a few players breaking 70. Curtis Hughes came in third place with 69, so looks like the extra practice is helping for him. Oliver Proctor came in 2nd, also with nett 69 but beat Curtis on a card play-off. We also want to give a special mention to David Aitchison who also scored 69 but was beaten on a card playoff by Chris and Oliver. But out in front with a nett 67 and also the lowest gross of 69 was Tom Kirton. Unfortunately Tom is junior member and therefore can't categorically win the major competitions. This happened to Tom last week as well. We're sorry that your rich vein of form is not being rewarded Tom. This meant that the winner of the comp was Oliver Proctor.

Last week we also had the Prestbury Open 36-hole Scratch Medal in which our own Prestbury member had some great success. Josh Garside managed to win the competition with two great rounds of 70 and 73. Well done Josh, a very impressive day of golf. We also want to say congratulations to Jerry Hayes on winning the 36-hole nett prize at the Prestbury. Great to have both winners in our open to be members of the club! We also had Tom Kirton in 3rd place to add to success of the club. Well done guys, you've done the club proud!!

Tour news

Furyk Record Breaker

Jim Furyk blazed his way into the record books as he fired the first 58 in PGA Tour history in the final round of the Travelers Championship. Furyk's astonishing round at TPC River Highlands featured a hole-out from the fairway for eagle at the third as well as 10 birdies, including seven in a row around the turn. The 46-year-old also became the first player to break 60 twice in an official PGA Tour event having been the last player to achieve the feat in the 2013 BMW Championship. He missed only one fairway and hit all 18 greens in regulation while needing just 24 putts to secure his place in the history books. The one fairway he did miss he then went to knock it within 3 feet and roll it in for a birdie. Playing in the third group out after slipped to one over following a disappointing 72 on Saturday, Furyk's stunning finish propelled him 65 places up the leaderboard, although he still trailed overnight leader Berger by four strokes. An incredible round of golf, and something we may not see again for quite some time.

Shop news

Nike Discontinue Hardware

More big news in the world of golf is that Nike announced that it is getting out of the golf equipment business, ditching any future in clubs, balls and golf bags. What this means for some of the biggest stars in golf we are unsure. Nike Golf finished fiscal 2016 with $706 million in revenue, its worst year since 2011, when the division generated $623 million. Aside from a challenging marketplace that never fully recovered in the economic downturn that began in late 2008, Nike's prime golf endorsers have struggled. Tiger Woods, who re-signed with Nike in 2013 to a deal of undisclosed length, hasn't played golf for an entire year and missed cuts at three of the four majors in 2015. Rory McIlroy, who signed with Nike in January 2013, hasn't won a PGA Tour tournament this season and missed the cut at the past two major championships.

There's always going to be an element of luck with any hole-in-one, but this is something else! Sadly for Thomas Bjørn, it won't go down as a competitive ace.. Still… worth a watch.

Luckiest ever hole-in-one?
