Last Tuesday 29th November the ladies played in a yellow ball competition in teams of 3. We had some good results in from the ladies last week. In 3rd place were Mary Stanton, Jenny Purves and Linda Worsley with a very good 70 points. They were narrowly beaten by Sheila Earl, Elaine McLean and Jill Gregory who also scored 70 but came 2nd on a card play-off. Out in front though, with a great score of 73 points were Nicky Markland, Gill Usher and Wendy Mosley. Well done ladies.
On Saturday the gents played in their Turkey Trot, competing for a meat voucher for Nigel Wilcox's Butchers in Macclesfield, a nice bonus in the run up to Christmas. There were some crazily good scores again. Playing on the 14 holes that were open on Saturday, David Allmand-Smith came in 3rd with 33 points. David Smyth also scored 33 points but came 2nd on a card play-off. But out in front with a great score of 34 points and looking very happy with his turkey sorted for Christmas was Ken Jee. Hope you enjoy your new handicap!
Well done to all our winners in last week's competitions, though we might have to make the course a bit harder again with all these low scores coming in!
Thomas Bjorn
As you are probably aware Thomas Bjorn has been announced as Europe's Ryder Cup captain for the next contest in France in 2018. Bjorn has been handed the task of regaining the trophy following this year's heavy defeat at Hazeltine National under Darren Clarke, and the 45-year-old has a long - and successful - involvement with the competition.
He has exceptional experience to bring to the role. The Dane's three appearances as a player all resulted in victories in 1997, 2002 and the miracle of Medina in 2014, while he has also been an assistant captain four times, including vice-captain to Clarke in Minnesota. Bjorn has previous captaincy experience and led Continental Europe to victory in the Seve Trophy in 2009 as a non-playing skipper, and he has also been heavily involved with the European Tour having served as chairman of the tournament players' committee since 2007. He will become only the fourth skipper from continental Europe after getting the nod in a unanimous decision following a meeting of a panel comprised of former captains Clarke, Paul McGinley and Jose Maria Olazabal, European Tour chief executive Keith Pelley and tournament committee member Henrik Stenson. Bjorn is a great choice to lead Europe's quest to regain the special trophy.
Technology for Christmas
Our aim in the run up to Christmas is to make your easier by suggesting gift ideas you can get from us! Last week we looked more at bits and bobs, cheaper items to put in your friends stockings. This week we are going to focus on technology. We have some great gadgets in the shop for you get for your golf mad friend this Christmas.

The SkyCaddie SW2 is the next generation of the bestselling SkyCaddie Watch. SW2 also features Auto-Course Recognition - so it knows where you are when you approach the first tee. It also has a Shot Distance function, enabling you to mark and measure how far you have hit the ball.
3) Motocaddy S1
Following an extensive upgrade for 2016, the brand new S1 incorporates a number of improvements including a soft-touch ergonomic handle; low-profile, quick-release wheels; a streamlined battery tray; and the super-fast quickfold assembly mechanism. Add these to the nine speed settings, battery indicator and whisper-quiet motor, plus adjustable bag supports and compatibility with the popular easilock system and it's easy to see why the S1 is the world's favourite electric golf trolley.
4) Motocaddy M1

Bob Plenderleith
We end the newsletter this week with the sad news that Bob Plenderleith, a long standing member, has sadly passed away at the age of 95. Bob was a member for 30 odd years and even after he couldn't play golf anymore, regularly came to the club to play bridge and socialize. Our thoughts are with Hazel and their family.
