Mixed Greensome

On Sunday the mixed played in a Greensome competition over 14 holes. In 3rd place were Brian and Judith Durrant with a great score of 28 points. Narrowly ahead of them with 29 points were Mike Bragg and Jane Davenport. However, way out in front with a very impressive score of 34 points were Steve and Jill Kimber. A very impressive score.

Well done to our winners in last week's competition. This week we only have the mixed results from Sunday as the gents didn't have a comp this week and the ladies were unfortunately snowed off on Tuesday, and here is a picture of the snow to show how bad it was!

Fowler Wins with Cobra

Rickie Fowler secured a first PGA Tour title in 18 months with a hard-fought four-shot victory at the Honda Classic. The American took a four-shot lead in to Sunday and never lost top spot throughout his final round, carding a one-over 71 to finish four clear of Morgan Hoffmann and Gary Woodland. Fowler recovered from a slow start to pull clear of the chasing pack in breezy conditions at PGA National, with the world No 14 able to bogey his final two holes and still secure a convincing victory.

Fowler was using Cobra clubs that we have in stock in the shop. He plays with the Cobra King F7+ Driver, the Cobra Fly-Z+ Fairway woods and Cobra King Forged MB Irons, all available now in the shop. Come and have a go and see if you can hit them like Fowler!


Weather in Africa

The European Tour event at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington was decided over 54 holes after heavy rain on the first and third days led to delays with the course flooded. There was also a two-hour delay on Sunday morning for more rain before play could get underway.

Darren Fichardt won the weather-affected Joburg Open with a 4-under 68 on Sunday for a 1-shot victory over Stuart Manley and Paul Waring in a tournament reduced to three rounds because of rain and a waterlogged course. All 3 of these players secured a British Open spot with their top 3 finishes, something to look forward to for these men.


 

Nearly Masters Time

The Masters and the season are fast approaching!

Rory is back playing after his little lay off. He will be hoping for a win and at the Masters as much as anybody else, as he hunts his only eluding major. We really hope he hits good form and can finally get the masters title he's always wanted.

Picture Competition

Congratulations to Alex Forbes who was correct in saying I was looking down the 5th fairway in our photo quiz. You can come and collect any 3 balls of your choice whenever you are ready! 

We had a load of correct answers and Alex was drawn out of a hat. We also had 1 wrong answer, we won't name names but you know who you are!


 

Equipment Check

In this newsletter, we are going to look at the importance of looking at the size of your putter grip and the condition. Putter grips have come a long way since the standard sized grip, and now the sizes to choose from are endless with the most popular being the Super Stroke grips if you're looking for a thicker option. 

There are a couple of benefits to using the thicker putter grip, one being that your hands are less active at address making a much smoother stroke, the reason for this is that the hands can't wrap around the grip so they are naturally relaxed. All of this means that the hands are less likely to manipulate the face.

Currently available in the shop we have a range of Super Stroke putter grips for you to have a look at that range from sizes 1.0 through to 3.0. 

NEW in 2017 we have the brand new weighted Super Stroke if you are looking for something a little different. This grip comes with a removable 50-gram weight so you can tailor the grip how you choose. 

Another option is again the brand NEW Golf Pride putter grips, which we have two styles, the contoured grip, and the straight grip. Each grip is designed to sit a little different in your hands to suit you grip and putting style. We have a couple of examples in the shop so you can demo them yourself and see what comes out on top.

However, if you don't feel that you suit a thicker grip but your current grip is a little worse for wear we still have several standard sized grips for you to try.

Alderley Pilates

Finally, I want to thank Alderly Pilates. I have been attending Pilates recently and the last 3 times I have played I have been completely pain free. It's a shame they can help my back but can't help my swing!
