Ball Fitting
We are going to be running a ball fitting at some point in the near future to try and help you find a ball that you can play week in week out instead of using a variety of different balls that you find on the practice ground. There has been interest for this already, there are no specific numbers for this as it will be a rolling event for most of the day. If this is something that may benefit your game don't hesitate to come into the shop and talk to one of the team about it.
One main issue with using a variety of different balls can come on and around the green, which is due to how each ball reacts. For example, a Pro V1 will tend to spin much more than a DT TruSoft, this can affect where you land the ball when chipping onto the green as a Pro V1 will stop quicker and a DT TruSoft will tend to release further. Choosing the right ball is also important when on the putting surface as the right ball can work perfectly with insert in the putter face, dictating the length in which the ball rolls out when the ball is struck. To look at this further, myself and Joe will be conducting a little test on the putting green over the next week to see how each ball reacts when chipping and putting. This will hopefully give you clear view of performance for each ball.
Augusta Picks
With the masters fast approaching here are my (Joe's) picks:
1. Rory Mcilroy
2. John Rahm
3. Alex Noren
Rory has been under the radar this year compared to the build-up of last year's masters, with injury affecting his calendar at the start of the year. That time off has undoubtedly taken the pressure off him which should allow him to go out and just play golf. If the recovery of his stress fracture has gone to plan he should be a force to be reckoned with. John Rahm is someone to watch for, he has ever impressed since he turned professional last year with playing 9 events this year and making the cut in all, also racking up 4 top ten finishes, one 2nd and a win. With this current form and long hitting drives he is surely going to be in contention over the week. My last pick would be Alex Noren, he is another player in great form continuing from the end of last season, has a brilliant reputation on the greens which is always a bonus with the notoriously tricky Augusta greens.
Nick Summerfield's Picks:
1. Rory
2. Justin Thomas
3. Matt Fitzpatrick
Nick Chadwick's Picks:
1. Dustin Johnson
2. Sergio Garcia
3. Thomas Pieters
Come and have a go and see if you can beat us. A point will be given for the position the player comes in. The person with the lowest score wins!
Competition Results
Our main club news this week is that the ladies had their season opening match on Tuesday. In what was a fittingly lovely day, the new Lady President and Lady Captain started the day's action, with their partners Laura McNair and Denise Oakes respectively. We can tell you that the Lady Captain led from the front but the ladies having disclosed the result so we can't tell you just yet. The gents will have their season opener on Saturday in a 1pm shotgun, and will be great to play off the white tees!
The gents played in the Spring 4BBB on Saturday in what was another lovely day. It was an extremely closely fought contest with only 4 points separating the first 9 places, with all 9 breaking the 40-point barrier. Any of these 9 pairs could have won it on another day. However, in 3rd place were John Bianchi and David Wood with 44 points. In 2nd place were Conrad O'Neil and Tim Royle, also with 44 points. But narrowly beating both of those pairs on a card play-off, also with 44 points were Richard Atkinson and Mike Forbes.
Well done to all our winners in the week's comps, even if we don't know them all yet.
Just a quick reminder that the entry for the knock outs closes this Sunday, so if you want to play and haven't put your name down yet, the sign in sheet is in the Pro Shop. The draw will be done on Monday and the first round will be played for end of April or early May.
The Shoe Size Challenge!
We are running a new campaign to test whether your shoe is the right size for you. 70% of golfers are wearing shoes that are not best fit for them. It can lead to a loss of power in your golf swings of up to 26% and can cause discomfort during the round, impeding performance.
FootJoy offers the most size, width, and last options of any golf shoe brand, to ensure golfers can find the best fitting golf shoes.
Come in and we will test the size of your feet and see if it matches the shoes that you are currently wearing. If you have the correct size shoe, we will give you a pair of socks absolutely FREE!
Click on the videos below to see what footwear we have in store and also mine, Nick's and Joe's footwear of choice for the season.
