PGA National Pro-Am
On Saturday, we had the PGA National Pro-Am where the winner had the chance to team up with Nick and play the national qualifier. The weather once again was superb and the scores reflected that with a number of players playing to their handicap or better. The winner though with a brilliant score of nett 67 was Gordon Tebay who just pipped new member Adam Bunt by one shot. Congratulations to Gordon who will team up with Nick in the next stage of the pro-am series.
The regional qualifying competition is being held at Sandiway towards the end of June and hopefully if we perform well on the day, off to Portugal in September for the Grand Final!!!!
Ladies Medal and 9 Hole Stableford
The ladies this week had a medal and a 9 hole stableford and in trying conditions Cecilia Lyon led the way in the medal with a very good score of nett 76 beating Jayne Harrison into 2nd place by a shot with Jean Duncan and Liz Dunckley a further shot behind.
In the stableford Nan Coates led the way with 17 points from Alex Forbes on 15 points.
Players Championship
Ian Poulter almost made a winning return to the tour after a long spell out from the game after injury, he played a solid 4 rounds golf to finish in a tie for second with the South African Louis Oosthuizen. The winner however was the youngest to ever win the players championship, with a total score of 10 under par Si Woo Kim was the winner and joins a prestigious group of winners.
The Captains Away Day
This year is nice and local!! We will be playing at Ringway Golf Club on Thursday, 8 June. The day will start with breakfast at 8am followed by a shotgun start at 8.45. There will be a prize presentation at 1.30 followed by lunch at 2pm. The cost is hopefully going to be around £30 and again the sheet is on the main board.
Ecology Walk
There is also an ecology walk on Wednesday, 24 May at 7.15pm. This will be presented by our course manager Mark Crossley and Phil Worth (architect and constructor of the small mammal hotel by the 18th tee). They will conduct a short walk around the course and woodland to demonstrate the improvements made by the greenkeepers and ecology committee over the past year. There will also be the opportunity for a bite to eat after the walk.

Green Reading
Are you struggling to read the greens when you are out on the course? Why not come in and have a chat with us, we are using an app on the iPhone that will help you learn what to look for when standing on a green. The app is called the Break Meter and gives you a simple read out of the slope and break severity when you place your phone behind your ball on the putting surface.
This app is free and can be a great training aid to use on the practice putting green before you go out to try and familiarise yourself with certain putts that you may have. All that is left to do is work on your putting technique to create a stroke that is repetitive coupled with feel for speed!
