Captain's Charity Competition
On Saturday, the gents played in the Captain's Charity Competition. There were two comps run through the day, one from the white tees and one from the yellow tees.
In the white tee competition, Alex Marshall came in 3rd place with 38 points. Narrowly ahead of him was Conrad O'Neil with 39 points. But just a whisker ahead on a card play-off was Gordon Reilly also on 39 points to win the comp on the day.
The yellow tee competition was won by Anthony Bentley on 37 points.
Invitation Day
On Tuesday the ladies had their Invitation Day. In 3rd place was Jayne Harrison and her guest Sue Lawton on 34 points. In 2nd place was Debby Baker and her partner Philippa Stewart with 36 points. However they were narrowly beaten on a card play-off by Caroline Harrison-Croft and her guest, Donna MacIntosh.
Well done to all our winners over the last week!!!
Build Up
In the build up to the US Open Renato Paratore displayed impressive composure under pressure as he held off Ryder Cup stars Matt Fitzpatrick and Chris Wood to clinch his maiden European Tour title at the Nordea Masters. Wood is confident he has done enough to qualify for the US Open as he reflected on a frustrating runners-up finish at the Nordea Masters in Sweden. Wood was tied for the lead with Renato Paratore when he arrived on the 18th tee, but he pulled his drive into deep trouble among the trees and bushes and was forced to take a penalty drop for an unplayable lie.
In other news Rory has been passed fit to play, the world No 2 has revealed he has recovered from a rib injury and will be fit for the US Open later this month. So, we look forward to watching him play next week. Phil Mickelson has announced he will not compete in the US Open as the tournament clashes with his daughter's high school graduation. Mickelson has put family commitments before his pursuit of a career grand slam of major championships, and he has informed the United States Golf Association that he will not be in the field at Erin Hills. Luke Donald will also miss out as he fails to qualify for US Open as Steve Stricker progresses.
Epic Irons!!
Without a doubt, the most technologically advanced Callaway irons ever.
Next-generation 360 Face Cup - just 1mm thick at its thinnest point - is another key ingredient to unlocking extra yards throughout each set. Featuring an ultra-thin rim around the perimeter of the inner side of the face, at impact it flexes and rebounds to add ball speed on centre-hit shots, while minimising loss on off-centre strikes.
The Centre of Gravity (CG) position in each head is precisely and individually managed via a new Metal Injection Moulded (MIM) process that utilises a dense, and heavy, tungsten powder baked into intricate Internal Standing Wave shapes that are unique to each iron.
This ground-breaking, industry-first process allows the CG to be exactly positioned from club-to-club, (in the 3- to 8-iron 30% of the total head weight is located in the Internal Standing Wave alone) making long irons easy launching and high flying, and shorter clubs more controllable.
We've got some demos in the shop with various shafts, if you fancy having a go just pop in and borrow one!
