Last Saturday we had one of our biggest competitions of the year, Captains Day. 160 gents came to compete for the captain's prizes. Top of the pile was John Campaigne with a terrific score of 68. John Browning also came in with a 68 but as he is a temporary member he is unfortunately ineligible to win a prize. 2 shots off the pace with a nett score of 70 came 3 players, Steve Best, Alan Perry and Simon Bolam with the later making the best gross with a very impressive 72. The ladies' putting was won by Laura McNair whilst the gent's was won by Dan Young. Josh Garside took nearest pin and Marcus Barrow the longest drive. Finally Peter Harrison won the over 70's. Congratulations to all our winners this Captain's Day.
Pictured above is our fabulous ladies doing their afternoon crazy golf putting competition on Captains Day afternoon before they had afternoon tea... Who said golf was a good walk ruined hey?
Last weekend also saw the Ladies US Open take place at Pinehurst. American Michelle Wie won by two shots to claim her first major title. Joint overnight leader Wie carded a level-par 70 to remain at two under and hold off world number one Stacy Lewis, whose 66 lifted her to second. Northern Ireland's Stephanie Meadow, in her first professional tournament, hit a 69 to finish third on one over par, a great achievement. Wie burst on to the scene a decade ago by playing men's tournaments as a teenager catching the eyes of golf lovers around the world. A decade later she has now won her first Major and we are sure she will continue to dazzle the world. Wie looked in control as she stepped on to the 16th tee with a three-shot lead but she drove into a bunker and then hit her second shot into a bush. She had to take an unplayable lie penalty but eventually rolled in a five-foot putt to drop two shots as her lead slipped to one over Lewis, who had eight birdies and four bogeys in her round. Wie responded with a superb 25-foot birdie putt at the par-three 17th and, with her swagger back, she drilled her final drive down the last to set up a closing par and the victory.

As usual we will take the top 50 players in the world and randomly assign players to each member. Fingers crossed some of Britain's golfers can improve on England's woeful world cup campaign. Tiger Woods will be making a return to major championship golf at Royal Liverpool in a couple of weeks but has come out and said himself he does not think he is the player he once was. Do you think Tiger can return to his former self?
