Club Competitions
On Saturday, the gents played in the Rawsthron Memorial Trophy, this is one of our Majors and is played in stroke play format. The weather was ok but looking at the scores it was a tough day to break par, only 2 players managed that feat. Nick Wood came in 3rd place with a level par 71 to put himself in and amongst the leaders. A further shot ahead with a nett 70 was Martin Keates. But narrowly winning the comp with a great score on the day of nett 69 was David Aitchison. David, playing off 9, hit an 8 on the 9th so probably wouldn’t have thought he had a chance, but a very strong finish, including a birdie on the 18th sealed him the victory.
On Monday bank holiday, we ran a mixed team event. We ran an unusual format to allow everyone to get involved in the scoring. The teams consisted of 2 gents and 2 ladies in each team, for every hole we took the best gents score and best ladies score in a stableford format apart from the par 3s which was best 3 out of 4. Understand that? OK, good. In third place we had John Simons, Margaret Simons, Ken Williamson and Sue Williamson who scored 88 points. Very narrowly beating them, also with 88 points were Adrienne Wood, Nick Wood, Simon Baker and Debbi Baker. But way out in front with a great score of 93 points were Mike Forbes, Alex Forbes, Jill Gregory and Anthony Bentley.
Then finally on Tuesday, we had a ladies major competitions, the Ferguson Bowl Final – Par Competition. 2 players broke par in the comp with very good scores. Debbie Baker came in 2nd place with a great score of 2, however she was just beaten by Ellen Cail, who seems to be winning a lot recently, who scored 3. The subsidiary stableford was won by Gill Clewley with 38 points.
Well done to all our winners in last week’s competitions.
Prestbury Open
Last Friday we had the Prestbury Open, a 36-hole scratch competition. A few of our members took part in the comp with the best score coming from Tom Kirton. Tom had a dodgy start but hit the best round of anyone on the day with his 2nd round 65. This resulted in him coming 2nd and just missing out on the trophy, well done on a very good effort.
