We started off last week with the ladies Dora Hill trophy, a medal format which again was played in red hot conditions with a superb turnout of 47 players. This made for some tricky golf out there when playing on, into, and around the greens, despite this though there were still great scores on the day. In third place posting a nett score of 74 was Lynne Dicken, with Jean Duncan just pipping her into second place with a nett score of 73. The winner this week though with a superb nett 69 was Liz Dunckley.
There was also a ladies 9-hole competition being played, Jane Nichols and Janet graham were tied for second place on 14 points, but the winner was Carolyn Lee with a total points score of 15. The ladies also played the Sunday par competition, this was only a small field with 2 ladies playing. The winner with a score of -5 was Ellen Cail.
Next was the men’s stableford competition on the Saturday with a turnout of 99 players and the course continuing to play fast and bouncy. We had 3 players tied on 37 points which was Josh Garside, William Kennedy, and Colin Fearns for third place with Josh Garside coming out with a better back nine to take the spot. We also had a card playoff for the win between Jerry Hayes and Craig Jones with both having 38 points, but with a better back nine score the winner was Craig Jones. |
British Open qualifying
A congratulations to James Newton for securing his place in local final qualifying for the British Open this year, he shot a 3 over 75 to finish in a tie for the last few spaces which meant he had to playoff for his space. He cruised through the playoff to gain his spot for the final stage. Good luck to James in local final qualifying! |

Playing from tight lies
We have also done a little piece on the course about playing from tight lies, this is due to the hot weather we’ve been having causing the ground to crisp up and make certain shots a little but more difficult.
This piece is just a short clip of a little tip we’ve put together just to give you a hand in playing from that lie. |

Which bracket do you fall in? |
There’s one thing that you'll always need in abundance when playing golf and that’s balls - and plenty of them. Each golf ball we sell offers different levels of feel and performance at varying price points, meaning we have something to offer all playing preferences and budgets. |
| Bang for your buck Balls at a cheaper price point usually have one key performance benefit rather than offering a little of everything. This Callaway Warbird follows the trend by offering maximum distance with your longer clubs thanks to its aerodynamic dimples and high-energy core, giving you lots of power for little expenditure. |
| The all-rounder If you’re looking for more balanced performance through the bag but without the premium price tag, this Callaway Supersoft ball is designed to be long, straight and soft. It doesn’t spin as much as the Chrome Soft, but its low compression core helps create long, high flights that land softly. |
| Tour performance The saying 'you get what you pay for' certainly applies when it comes to golf balls. Callaway's Chrome Soft is their premium option, and it's easy to see why, with a soft urethane cover for short-game spin and a graphene-infused core that boosts ball speed and provides more iron control. |
