Well it's nice to see that the best players in the world can get it wrong occasionally. I was thinking of Rory's 195 yard bunker shot over water on the 16th on Sunday. Personally when you are leading by 2 shots with a few holes to play (especially when you have struggled all day with your game) the best shot to play has to be a lay up. By doing that you eliminate the double bogey and even if you don't manage to wedge it close and hole the putt at least you still stand on the 17th tee with a one shot lead and a par 5 to finish. However pressure of the situation does strange things to the mind and hind sight is a wonderful thing!!! It was also nice to see Jamie having a good start this week in the Honda, hopefully he will be able to kick on from this and use it as a spring board to bigger and better things in America.
Sunday also saw my first challenge match with the new gents captain Paul Allen and on a cold and showery morning another year of matches began. We played last years captain Charlie Cunningham and this years president Mike Bebbington and I am pleased to say that after winning the 1st with a very good putt from Paul for birdie (I was inside him for the birdie and didn't need to putt) we never looked back. The game though was won around the turn when we managed to win 3 holes out of 5 and rapped up the game 4&3. The sheet for our challenge matches is on the main board and filling up fast.
If you want to keep up with what is happening at the club I am using Facebook to inform of problems on the course, what is happening at the club and new stock arriving or special offers I am running in the shop. To become a friend of the shop click here.
There is only one result from last week and that is the ladies stableford, which saw 17 entries in division 1 and some good scoring as well.
Leading the way was Darlene Masters with 38 points, in 2nd place was Monica Bewers with 37 points and in 3rd place was Alex Forbes with 37 points. Scoring wasn't quite so hot from the 26 entries in division 2 as Angela Riordan, Joan Crouch and Gill Buxton tied for 2nd place with 31 points but out front with 33 points was Jill Morris.
A very important date for the ladies - Friday 28th March
I will be hosting a fashion show in the clubhouse starting at 7pm. On show will be this years summer collections from Green Lamb and Daily Sports. The cost of entry is £5 which will include a glass of wine, nibbles and a prize draw ticket. I will also run a special offer of 15% off any purchases or orders on the night so to reserve your place for the evening come and see me in the shop.
The Masters is only 5 weeks away which means that the season is nearly upon us. This year to coincide with the event I have a Callaway Fitting day on Saturday 12th April from 10am to 2pm which will be an excellent opportunity to hit the full range of clubs by Callaway with their fitting technician Andrew. I would advise you to book your appointment with me in the shop ASAP.
Also I have been lucky enough to get a limited edition Callaway tour bag which has been made to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Arnold Palmer winning The Masters and I am going to raffle it off with the draw taking place over the weekend of the tournament. As always I will be running a sweepstake for The Masters at a cost of £10 per player and as usual using only the top 50 players in the tournament. The draw for players will take place on the Wednesday before the start of the first round.
With new stock arriving daily I need more space so I am adding some clubs in the sale!!!
As well as running the 50% off all clothing which will last for a few days more!!!
