Competition news

Latest Results

The first competition to cover was the Coronation Foursomes on Saturday for the men, traditionally a tough format to play with both players having to perform to score well. In third place with a respectable nett 72 was Mark Rogers and Steve Mobley who were tied with Austin McBride and David Murray but just missed second place on a card playoff. The winners though were Steve Kimber and Simon Baker who scored a nett 68.5 to win by a comfortable margin and claim the trophy.

The next competition was the ladies 4BBB String Event, which had a little twist which allowed the players to use the pieces of string to either give themselves putts or get out of trouble. Scoring was superb with 10 teams scoring 80 points and higher from only a 2 player to score format. In third place was the team of Yvonne Dodd, Gilly O’Neill, Nicola McBride and Alison Martin with 89 points. Second place went to Darlene Masters, Caroline Harrison-Croft, Jill Morris and Shirley Osbaldeston with 90 points. The winners though with 91 points and just edging the victory were the team of Gill Mellor, Sue Beesley, Jayne Davenport and Emma Jayne-Bolshaw.

Captain Vs President

Just a quick reminder that the Captain Vs President’s match is coming up this Saturday and time is running out if you would like to play, you can sign up online for the match with the teams being drawn online.

With the Captain and President’s game coming up it means that the season is sadly drawing to a close. It has a been a fantastic season I think you’d all agree with the course again in superb condition and a summer finally to match it. Here’s hoping we have a kind winter and plenty of good golf throughout.

Rules Evening

As you may be aware we have a few rules changes coming into effect on the 1st of January 2019, with that in mind the professional team will be hosting a rules evening to go through some of the rule’s changes on Friday 30th November in the evening.

There will be more information to follow about the evening plans.

The good old days

Sometimes it's nice to reminisce about the good times. When it comes to golf, the days of persimmon woods, small clubheads and hitting balls which were hard as a rock are long gone - but it can help to take a trip down memory lane to remind us of just how much technology has developed, particularly in the case of drivers.

Time tunnel

Take Lynx for example; you might have been lucky enough to own its revolutionary Predator II driver way back in 2004. A relatively tiny 380cc clubhead meant the Predator II was possibly one of the most intimidating clubs on the market - which made it even sweeter when you crushed one right down the middle.

Fast-forward to the present day, and Lynx has released its most technologically advanced driver to date in the form of #BB. It features a forgiving 460cc headshape, as well as sliding 3g weights which can be adjusted to help you find your ideal ball flight.

So, whilst it is nice to think about your first ever driver, it's probably time to get up to speed with the latest models such as the #BB. Who knows? Maybe in another 10 years time, you'll be looking back on the #BB with as much fondness as the Predator II!

How times have changed

Remember when you used to get ready for a round of golf during winter - you'd put on your vest, followed by a turtleneck, followed by a polo, then a jumper, before finally putting on your jacket. Not only was it a complete pain in terms of trying to stay warm without overheating, but it also made swinging the club near impossible - not a great combination if you wanted to enjoy your 18 holes.

Luckily, we've come a long way since then and we're now able to wear golf-specific garments which are not only comfortable, but also designed to keep your movement as natural as possible. So, instead of donning 5 or 6 layers during your round of golf, all you'll need is three.
