Welcome to another exciting edition of our weekly newsletter, I hope you've had a great week on and off the course.
Enjoy the read! |
Latest Results I think it’s safe to say that most of you don’t need 14 clubs in your bag after looking at your scores for the 5 Club Comps. Some great scores by both the ladies and gents with only a few clubs in the bag. There were three 5 club competitions over the week and starting us off was the gents. The winner was Chris Bowden, he managed to score 39 points off a handicap of 6 to take the win, congratulations Chris.
The ladies had a 9-hole and 18-hole 5 club competition on Tuesday with Maura Delany taking the 9-hole competition with a score of 16 points. The winner of the 18 hole was Elaine Fawkes who scored 38 points to take the ladies prize.
Fantastic scoring from both sections and well done.
The final competition was the Poppy Day 14-hole Mixed Event on Sunday, a super turnout on the day with 14 teams taking part for a good cause. The winners were the team of Carl and Wendy Phelan and Will and Andrea Atherton who scored 65 points.

Layering
With the weather turning colder now the clocks have changed I thought I would try to educate everyone on how to stay warm and dry on the course but also be able to play your best golf at the same time. To do this it’s important to understand the concept of layering.
What you wear on the golf course can not only make you look good but also improve your game by keeping you fresh and alert and dry and warm. The days of heavyweight and restrictive clothing as the only options when the weather takes a turn for the worse are long gone. The golf industry has been quick to take advantage of new fabric technologies with a wide range of golf specific garments available. The correct combination will allow you to perform to your maximum whatever the external conditions. The key to this process is layering, combining clothing for different conditions to ensure that you remain dry, regulate your temperature, and protect you from the wind, rain, or sun. Three layers are generally considered to be the optimum amount, and these consist of a base layer, a mid layer for either warm or cold conditions and an outer layer.
Layer 1: The “Base Layer”
Base Layer garments are worn next to the skin and moisture management is a key element for this primary layer to remove moisture from the skin which natural fibres such as cotton, cannot achieve on their own due to high absorbency. The base layer should fit the shape of the body quite closely so that it works to its optimum in cold conditions. One of the key advantages of a base layer is the warmth it generates to the body helps golfers swing more freely and therefore perform better.
|
Layer 2: The “Mid Layer”
The mid layer plays a key role in thermal regulation depending on the conditions. In cold weather the mid layer should give additional thermal insulation to keep the body warm and comfortable by trapping heat generated by the body. Mid-layers for cold conditions are generally constructed from soft and stretchy materials that provide a snug fit that in no way restricts the golf swing. Breathability is essential in a good mid layer so that any excess moisture or heat is transported away from the body for easy evaporation. Traditionally wool sweaters have been used as a popular mid layer however these trap heat and prevent moisture movement, so are not suitable as part of a layering solution.
|
Layer 3: The “Outer Layer”
The Outer Layer is the weather protective layer and is designed to provide golfers with maximum protection against rain and wind. Outer Layers can be waterproof, rainproof/showerproof, or windproof. It is essential that the outer layer you choose is adequate for the conditions you face but should also be of a breathable moisture wicking construction and well ventilated to allow the 3-layer system to work efficiently.

Winter is coming, but we know that won't prevent you avid golfers getting out on the course to face biting winds, muddy shoes and, most of all, rain. Lots and lots of rain. With this in mind, it's more important than ever to have a golf bag which will keep your clubs and belongings dry during a downpour. |
Introducing BIG MAX Aqua Space This is where a cart bag like the Aqua Space comes into play. This bag has been designed with 100% waterproof material, including nine taped-seam waterproof zip pockets so that everything will be kept dry for the whole round no matter what the weather holds in store. The nine pockets also mean it's spacious enough for your extra layers (think waterproofs, jumpers, woolly hat, mitts etc) whilst there are specific holders for your umbrella, towel and glove; you’ll be ready for whatever gets thrown at you this winter. |
