Welcome to another exciting edition of our weekly newsletter, I hope you've had a great week on and off the course. Enjoy the read! |
Well what a great week I had in Dubai
I have to say that it’s a great venue for the finish of the European Tour season. The course is wonderful, the weather is perfect, the facilities are great its just a pity about the beer prices!!!
When I go to watch tournament golf, I enjoy watching the players warm up on the range rather than playing the course mainly due to the large British crowds who attend The Open etc. However, in Dubai it was completely different as the crowds were small and it was great to stand next to players while they chatted to their caddies about the shot in hand and to see their course management.

The time off has also given me a couple of ideas to work on with my own game through the winter! It was also enjoyable to play Trump International with Stuart Cresswell a member of PGC and although I was happy with my game, we won’t worry about the result, but thanks for the stuffing Stuart!! I seem to have brought the best out in everyone I’ve played against this year, I have also booked for more of the same next year! |
I started my few days away in Dubai by attending a Callaway stockroom where I saw next year’s offerings from Callaway and Odyssey and I am very pleased to say that we will have a lot of very tempting goodies again for you next year. Unfortunately, the clubs aren’t due out until next February but there is plenty of innovation in both clubs and putters, so much so that I have ordered myself a new set! Thank you Mr Callaway can’t wait for them to arrive. |
Team Callaway take the World Cup
Belgium won the World Cup of Golf for the first time as Callaway Staffers Thomas Pieters and Thomas Detry held off a late challenge from hosts Australia in Melbourne.
The Belgian duo carded a final-round four-under 68 in the foursomes at The Metropolitan Golf Club to finish on 23 under and secure their first victory. The pair had headed into the final day in the lead and, despite an unpredictable back nine which included four birdies (and a couple of bogeys), went on to win by three shots. Here’s what they had in their bag throughout the week:

Tiger vs Phil
Two of the biggest names in men's golf faced off on Friday to contest Capital One's The Match, Callaway Staffer Phil Mickelson and his long-time rival, Tiger Woods. Between them, the two golfers have won 19 Major Championships but, for the first time, they went head-to-head in matchplay format with $9,000,000 on the line.
The winner-take-all event, which was played at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas, was close for all 22 holes, but it was Mickelson, a three-time Masters Champion, who won 1-up overall with a four-foot birdie putt under the floodlights at the fourth extra hole. Mickelson ended up winning five holes, while Woods won four and they tallied the same score on the remaining 13. Here’s a look at what was in Phil’s bag for the big match:

Callaway continue to dominate with the big stick
Kicking off the new season in style, the Rogue Driver continued the rhetoric of late by claiming the #1 Driver model spot. At the end of last week, we were delighted to be able to share that a Rogue Driver had been the #1 model on the European Tour for 18 weeks out of the last 20.
The Rogue is available in-store so why not book yourself in for a fitting by clicking here. |

Scores
Saturday saw the 2nd round of the Winter League Order of Merit tournament with 16 pairs taking part on the day. Great quality scoring throughout all of the teams with a total of 14 pairings scoring par or better.
In third place was Ken Mairs and Murray Cuthbert who scored 41 points, they were just pipped by Mike Clewley and Vinod Dave who scored 42 points, it was Simon Moorhouse and Anthony McGuinness though who just edged them out with a 43 point total to take the 2nd stage of the winter league.
Congratulations guys!!

On Sunday the ladies played the Sunday Stableford, with three players taking part on the day over 14 holes. The winner on the day with a total of 21 points was Ellen Cail, with Josephine Harrison and Caroline Conaghan tied on 20 points. Congratulations Ellen!! |
Joe's residential
Joe will be once again attending the PGA residential in his last year doing the training before he becomes a fully qualified PGA professional. Over the course of the 5 days he will be attending classes such as business management, applied coaching and finally custom fitting. He will also be doing a practical exam while there which involves custom building a golf club to a certain specification. Hopefully everything will go well, and he can tick another stage of the list in completing the PGA qualification.

In the past, golf clothing has had the reputation of being “for the golf course” with a call to the fashion police needed if you were to wear it anywhere else. Thankfully, times have changed, and we now have a vast selection of fashionable pieces in-store that you’ll be able to confidently wear both on and off the golf course.
|
We know some of you are still wearing your baggy golf jacket from years gone by, so here's our suggestion to replace it: FootJoy's DryJoys Select jacket. |
If you're shopping on the high street, you'll no doubt be looking for something to keep you dry. Well, this jacket is made from specially engineered fabrics for maximum waterproof protection. |
Its stylish design means it can be worn both on and off the course, with golf-specific features such as extra stretch on the shoulders making this the perfect solution to combat the elements this winter. |
