Last Tuesday 7th October we had a ladies medal which due to the rain only had 8 players. Jae Bowers won division 1 with 79 nett and Lynne Cameron won division 2 with a 75 nett. On Saturday 11th October, 94 members took part in a stableford with age related prizes. Group A were aged 54 or younger, group B were 55-64, group C were 65-74 and group D consisted of the over 75's. Group D was won by John Rowley who managed 35 points to take the prize in the oldest category. Fred Bridge was the winner in Group C making 37 points. Steve Schofield also scored 37 points which was enough to win Group B. But winner of Group A and with the best overall score was Stephen Cheetham who managed a fantastic score of 42 points. George Senior also deserves a mention as he came 2nd overall with 38 points; this however wasn't good enough to get into the prizes as he was in the toughest category. Well done to all our winners in last week's competitions.
This Saturday we have the Captain and President match which just about marks the end of the 2014 season. The seasons seem to fly by every year and 2014 was no different. It's been another good year at Prestbury with the course keeping up to our usual high standards with the ground staff working as hard as ever. The weather has also been kinder than usual, though it doesn't seem like it at the moment, all this has made for a great year of golf. The highlight however has to be one of our members, Jamie Donaldson, providing the winning point for Europe in the Ryder Cup in magnificent fashion. It was fantastic to see Jamie cement himself in the history books and establish himself as one of the world's best golfers.
In the shop this week we are going to be concentrating on men's layering. The weather is rapidly cooling and it's time for you to start layering up. It is important to get the correct layering garments as to not impede your swing by wearing restricting clothing. Do you want to be a better golfer??
Over the course of the winter we are going to do drill weeks to help you improve, we are going to give you an extra short stroke game each week to help you improve your scores. These will be either chips, pitches, putts or bunker shots. We will try and vary it every week so you can improve your all round game.
We are thinking about organising a night golf event at Prestbury soon. For those who haven't done this before it's pretty self-explanatory. We will play a few holes on the golf course after it has gone dark. Lights will be placed either side of the fairway and around the greens and glow in the dark night ball will be used. We have yet to decide which holes will be played and the exact date and time. We know it will be some time in November or December as it starts to get dark nice and early. There are limited places available so if you want to play let us know in the shop ASAP. It will cost between 20-30 pounds, which will include golf, prizes and dinner.
A Clarins Experience
On Thursday 23rd of October the Clarins team from John Lewis will be paying us a visit. This will happen at 6.30 for 7pm and will cost £4. The price includes a glass of wine, nibbles and a goody bag courtesy of Clarins. There will also be a raffle at this event with £250 worth of prizes. This is open to any ladies and their friends, not just for our lady members. Finally this week we want to update on how the first tee is coming along. They've dug up the white tee and have started laying the turf today. The yellow and red tee has been dug up and flattened out.
Although it all still looks a mess we are starting to see light at the end and you can get a good idea now of what everything is going to look like.
