Quite a busy week last week with a few competitions for both the ladies and gents. Starting with the Midweek Stableford last Wednesday which saw a smaller field than usual but still great scoring amongst all who played. To decide the winner we had to have another card playoff which was between David Murray and Murray Cuthbert who both finished on 41 points, both pipping young Matt Delany who shot a superb 67 gross for 40 points and get down to a handicap of plus 1. The winner this week though with a better back nine score of 21 points goes to Murray Cuthbert, congratulations!!
Next we move onto the Gent's Staysure PGA Trophy Qualifier on Saturday with a field of 116 players split between two divisions on the day. In division 2 we needed yet another playoff to get the winner which was between Andy Holt and Norman Davies who both finished with a nett 70. After a better back nine it was Andy Holt who was the winner, he qualifies to play with myself at Manchester Golf Club later in the year. In division 1 David Aitchison was just edged by young Ross Clewley who finished with a nett 68 off a handicap of 2 to take the victory.
Next was the Ladies Australian Spoons played on Sunday morning, which was a stableford event over 18 holes. 8 pairs took part during the morning with Gill Clewley and Jayne Harrison coming out the winners with 35 points, well done girls!!
On Tuesday the ladies had another Stableford Foursomes event with a healthy turnout of 27 pairs which was decided with yet another playoff!! This time it was between Margaret Simons and Jill Morris & Barbara Newport and Margaret Wood. Both pairs finished with 37 points but with a better back 9 of 20 points it was Jill Morris and Margaret Simons who came out the winners.
The last competition to tell you about was the Ladies 9-Hole Stableford also played on Tuesday. With a total score of 21 points Jane Campaigne was the winner this week, she edged Gilly O’Neill who finished in second with 20 points.
Congratulations to all of the winners over the past week.

James & Bel It was a great win for James over in Ireland where he picked up the Irish Amateur Open which was played at County Sligo Golf Club over 4 rounds which saw him finish with a total of 275 (9 under) to take the win comfortably by 5 shots.
It’s a great win that will hopefully propel him onto more great performances in the future.

We would also like to wish Bel Wardle good luck as she gets ready to play the English Women’s championship down at Saunton Golf Club. After 2 rounds of Strokeplay the top 32 players will then head into a matchplay to decide the winner.
Good luck Bel! |

Brooks Retains The USPGA
It was an exciting end to the second Major of the year with Brooks Koepka retaining the Wanamaker Trophy, something which has only been done by Tiger Woods. After weathering four straight back-nine bogeys and a charge by Dustin Johnson (69, 6 under total) that briefly cut the lead to one, Brooks Koepka stabilised and shot a final-round 74 to win by two. He’d done enough over the first three days, which he spent, “absolutely destroying this place” (Xander Schauffele) and playing, “ridiculous golf” (Rob Labritz).
And now he’s won four Majors in 23 months!
With 2 Majors left, can Brooks continue this great run dominate the last 2 Majors like he did the PGA? What do you think?

Going Back In Time
As I mentioned towards the start of last month, myself and Nigel Preston are doing another charity event in which we play three rounds of golf around Prestbury using three different eras of golf clubs, which is being done on the 9th June.
This is just a message to see if anyone has any hickory shafted clubs and any clothing (plus two’s or four’s) that we could borrow for the day. Anything would be a massive help and greatly appreciated!

Most overlooked club in the bag? |
Thankfully, the penny has dropped when it comes to the importance of getting custom fitted for a new driver or set of irons. Unfortunately, we still see the vast majority of golfers overlook this process when it comes to their fairway woods, but why? |
| How often do you use yours? |
|
“I wouldn’t use it often enough” “It's too expensive” “It's not necessary” Yeah, I guess if you’re not concerned with shooting lower scores and maximising your potential then a custom fitted fairway wood isn’t that important. However, if improving your game is something you want to achieve, then having a full set of custom fitted clubs is vital, especially when it comes to gapping between your driver and irons.
