Lady Captain's Day

The busy week of competitions started off with Lady Captain's Day last Tuesday.

61 Ladies played in the 18 hole competition and in third place were Adrienne Wood and Jude Durrant with nett 74, in second was Caroline Harrison-Croft with a nett 73 but one shot better on nett 72 was Wendy Phelan.

In the 9 hole competition, there were 21 entries, in second place was Barbara Newport with 19 points but winning on a card playoff after having 19 points as well was Christine Smith.

Plus don't forget that Angie Riordan also had a hole in one at the 10th (I'm still waiting for my Guinness!).

Gents Captain's Day

Saturday saw Mr Captain host his day and although it was dry it was probably the coldest captains day ever!

149 gents started the day with high hopes only to be dashed by the first green due to the flag being front left.

However, in second place with a nett 71 was Donald Campbell but a shot better was Charlie Cunningham the Greens Committee chairman who was last out and finished in dark!

Best gross of 74 went to Andy Greenhalgh.

Mixed Midweek Stableford and Ladies Sunday Medal

The week also saw a mixed midweek Stableford and a ladies Sunday medal.

The midweek Stableford saw four players tie in second place with 36 points, they were Steve Burnage, Jonathan Salem, John Kennerley and John Griffiths but leading the way with 38 points was Derek Panton.

The ladies medal on Sunday saw Kim Mortimer pip Jo Harrison to the win.

This week also saw myself, Mark, Joe and Nigel have a lot of fun albeit over 8 holes using some old equipment.

We used a combination of hickory and steel-shafted clubs along with some old 1.62" balls as a prelude to a challenge match.

The older Pro's are taking on the younger Pro's using hickory shafted clubs only and dressed 20's style as well.

Hopefully, the four of us will be able to come up with a suitable date for the challenge and then we can earn some money for charity.

Golf on Tour

The big guns return

It’s been a strange year for the European Tour so far. Cancelled events, rescheduled tournaments and even new tournaments created. The pandemic hit the Tour hard and with relatively modest prize money on offer in the past few months, many of Europe’s biggest names have been Stateside.

This week will be different, though. The likes of Tommy Fleetwood, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Ian Poulter will return for the Scottish Open following the conclusion of the big-money FedEx Cup and the U.S. Open. It should be an exciting week of top-quality golf in East Lothian. We can’t wait!
