New Course Manager
As I am sure you are all aware we have a new course manager in our ranks. Mark has taken over from Anthony and we want to wish him the best of luck in his new role!
Last Tuesday the ladies took part in a 4-Ball Better Ball. 52 ladies took part in 26 teams. Linda Miller and Gill Buxton managed a good 37 points which was only good enough for 2nd place as Mary Weaver and Jean Duncan managed a very impressive 40 points to take first prize. Saturday came the turn of the men. They played in the White Memorial Trophy which was in the format of a Par/Bogey competition. Elliot Kirton and Lee Townley came in joint 3rd place with a score of 2. Phil Reynolds was a further 2 strokes ahead with a score of 4. But way out ahead with an outstanding score of 8 was Glenn Marshall. Well done to all our winners in last week's competitions.
Player's Championship
Rickie Fowler beat Sergio Garcia and Kevin Kisner in a play-off on a dramatic final day at the Players Championship at Sawgrass. This was honestly one of the most exciting finishes to a golf tournament I have seen in a very long time. Fowler produced a record-breaking finish to earn a share of the lead with long time final-round leader Sergio Garcia and Kevin Kisner on 12 under par, and the Spaniard was eliminated after a three-hole play-off covering 16, 17 and 18. The two Americans then headed back to the 17th tee with darkness closing in, and after Kisner wedged to around 12 feet, Fowler hit a beauty to within four feet of the flag. This crowd were all pro Fowler and after he stuck it right next the flag they erupted, it was great to watch, golf at the highest level being played in an incredibly tense play-off. Kisner's birdie putt was short of pace and missed on the low side, and Fowler held his nerve to rattle in the winning putt and claim his second PGA Tour title.
Cobra Fitting Day
Last Wednesday we had Cobra down for the afternoon, even though it was a terrible day in terms of weather we still went ahead, taking refuge in the sheltered training facility. A bunch of our members came and had a go with some of the equipment as well as a couple of guests. The feedback was all very good with everyone learning a little bit about their golf and what equipment is best suited for them. Pictured here we have Barry Limb who looks like he is about to have a go with the Cobra Fly-Z Driver. I bet he hit it further than his current driver.
If you missed out on getting a slot for the Cobra Fitting Day then there's no need to worry. We are arranging for them to come down again soon, we haven't set a date yet but when we do make sure to book straight away as I know some of you missed out last time!
We are also going to be arranging our own fitting days sometime in the near future. Due to the success of our recent club fitting we are going to hold one using all our demo kit and launch monitor. Our own fitting days will involve all the kit we've got in the shop so all the best from Cobra, Nike, Callaway, PING, Wilson Staff and Lynx. So rather than just getting the best from 1 brand you'll get the best from a few.
