Hello golfers, 

Firstly this week is my view on the Chambers of Horrors which was the US Open!!! I can't believe that someone thought it a good idea to play your National Championship and flag ship tournament on such a bad course. At a time when golf is on the decline due to modern day living surely you need to get this right. However after all the moans from the players (who moan anyway) Jordan Speith came through showing great nerve for such a young age obviously helped a bit by Dustin Johnsons 3 putt on the last. Will Speith add the Claret jug to his collection? Only time will tell. 



Captains Day

Well yet again the weather let us down on Captains Day last Saturday. Unfortunately it was a drizzally and damp day (which is what you expect in the middle of summer!!) However it didn't stop 150 gents taking to the course which was presented in great condition by Mark our course manager and his team and considering the weather scoring on the whole was very good indeed.

   

In 1st place was Andy Greenhalgh with a gross 67 off 2 nett 65 in 2nd place was Donald Campbell nett 67, in 3rd was Stephen Cheetham also with nett 67 and David Murray 4th with a nett 69. Jeff Speake won the over 70's prize with a nett 72 and Simon Bolam won best gross with a 74. 

Longest drive went to Nick Baglin and nearest the pin to Dominic Franey. 

   

The ladies putting competition was held indoors due to the weather!! A cunning two hole competition was won by Barbara Newport with a score of 9 with Barbara Boyd second. The gents putting competition was held outside and was a one hole miss and your out and was won by Doug McNair who managed two consecutive holes in 1.
