We'd like to start by saying sorry to Matt Sorrigan who shot a nett 65 only to see the comp be abandoned due to bad weather. And then to rub salt in the wound it was reduction only for those who completed their rounds. On a serious note, when bad weather strikes, I will sound the hooter to suspend play. Then you make your way to the clubhouse where a decision will be made. If that decision is to resume play, I will advise how long etc.
The previous Tuesday the ladies played in the Maud Bason Memorial Trophy. The comp was a foursomes format with 56 entries resulting in 28 pairs. Dorothy Davison and Gill Usher managed a nett 79.5 which was good enough for 3rd place. Jane Campaigne and Margaret Simons carded a nett 76 to come runners-up. But way ahead with a nett 70.5 were Debbie Baker and Sue Beesley.
Well done to the winners in the ladies comp last week.

How to Keep Dry
As the weather has been so tragic recently with constant rain falling on us we thought we would do a section this week on keeping dry on the golf course. If you love golf, you will play in the rain. It's virtually impossible not to. Keeping dry can be very important when playing in the rain as if your grips or hands get too wet they can slip and affect the way you make contact with the ball. So when it comes time to man up and play in a downpour, there are many choices you can take to keep yourself dry.
1. Utilise your umbrella
Your umbrella doesn't just have to keep your head and golf clubs dry you can also use it to keep your towel and gloves dry. If your towel is hanging off your bag it is most likely going to get wet as you are using your umbrella to protect your head, likewise with your glove. Why not try hanging your towel and gloves off the underside of your umbrella, this way they will stay dry and you will always have a towel to wipe your clubs and dry gloves.
2. Use a Rain-Glove
It's so much less of a pain in the arse to wear rain gloves than it is to worry about the club slipping. I play 10 times better with rain gloves on than I do trying to keep all my clubs dry and thinking about those last few drops of rain that hit my grips before I make my swing at the ball.
3. Towel Over Club Heads
A little tip to keep your clubs dry is to take a towel and put it over your club heads. This way you won't have to worry about rain getting in your bag and making your grips wet and slippy.
4. Water-Proof Bag
A water-proof bag is nearly essential in keeping your clubs and other gear dry. If normal bags get wet the water will seep through and dampen everything inside from your gloves and towel to your clubs themselves. In the shop we have a number of water-proof bags from Motocaddy, Lynx, Titleist and Callaway.
