US PGA Championship
Australian Jason Day won his first major title with a record score of 20 under par at the US PGA Championship. Day, 27, shot a closing 67 at Whistling Straits on Sunday to record the lowest total at one of golf's four majors. The world number five saw off a chasing pack that included Masters and US Open champion Jordan Spieth, who finished three shots back in second place. That was enough to ensure the American, 22, replaces Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy, 26, as world number one. South African Branden Grace was third on 15 under and Justin Rose of England finished fourth on 14 under after his challenge faded with a double bogey on the 13th.
Last Tuesday 11th August the ladies took part in the Maud Bason Trophy which was in a medal format. Many ladies took to the course in a hope to win the trophy. Alexandra Forbes managed a decent 72 nett but this was only enough to gain her second place. Ellen Cail also came in with 72 but just pipped Alex on a card play-off to take 1st place.
The following Saturday the men took part in the Coronation Foursomes. Nick Baglin and Michael managed 71 to come in 3rd place just behind Ceri James and Martin Prescott who came in with the same score but beat them on a card play-off. But out in front were David Murray and Austin McBride who carded a very impressive 68.5.
Golf Balls Causing Damage
We have had an incident this week where a ball struck off the 9th yellow tee hit a member's car as it was coming to the Club. The driver took every precaution to nudge his vehicle carefully forwards whilst observing the 9th tee and the golfer had struck the ball when the car was not in site. However due to the position of the yellow tee markers and the full foliage of the trees to the right an accident like this can happen and indeed it did. One can safely say that neither party acted irresponsibly. Who is to blame?
The lesson to be learned here is that we do have a blind spot from the 9th tee which the Course Manager is aware of and will resolve in due course; but please take great care when driving in or out of the Club. A dented car can be fixed but a ball causing bodily injury is far more serious and potentially, very costly. Does your household insurance cover personal injury? Should you obtain specific golfer's insurance?
The Club would advise; "Play it safe, Get Insured".
Trolley Problems
A lot of members have been having problems with their electric trolleys on the course and as a consequence not completing their round. We want to let you know you don't have to let it ruin your round. It is possible to disengage the wheels and use your trolley like a normal push trolley. You can then finish your round and resolve the problem when you are done.
Photo Competition
At the moment we are running a photo competition where you have to try and work out where on the course a particular photograph was taken. How this will work is we will be putting a photograph from the golf course up on here and it is your task to try and work out where it is. All the winners will be entered into a draw and 1 lucky winner will win a FREE Cobra bag at the end of the month!!
Last week we showed this picture (below) and we only received 1 correct answer, with 9 people guessing the wrong place. It was of course the 18th green.
Here is this week's photo (above), an easy one, let's hope more people get it right this time! Where abouts on the course is this? Please click here with your answers.
