Greetings golfers,
Obviously the big talking point this week is the Solheim Cup and the putt which wasn't given that turned the tide and the result in Americans favour. It is easily done in the heat of battle especially when emotions are running high which they tend to do in these matches!!!
However this is where the captain or a vice captain can defuse the situation by pointing out the error to the player, or the referee could intervene as well as the rules allow the player to replace the ball as near as possible to where it lay, without penalty (click here to see this ruling).
Hopefully Suzanne Petterson will not be affected too much by the controversy!!
Ladies news
On a lighter note our ladies played the flag medal this week and the overall winner carrying the flag down the 19th was Sheila Earl (nice to see the lessons paying off:) In division 1 the winner was Jo Harrison with a nett 73 and a handicap reduction to 4, in 2nd place was Debbie Baker with a nett 77 beating Jill Morris on a card playoff. In division 2 in 2nd place was Gill Buxton with a nett 76 and tied 3rd with nett 77's were Gill Usher and Gill Kennedy. There was also a 9 hole stableford which was won by Jane Nichols.
Also I forgot to mention the ladies Pierpoint result from a few weeks a ago which was a medal won by Caroline Harrison Croft with Jill Gregory 2nd.
Mens news
The gents had a mid week stableford which was won by David Murray with Brian Mosley in 2nd. The scoring was slightly better when the gents played the medal on Saturday with Matt Delany leading the way with a nett 68 beating Oli Cunningham on a card play off, in 3rd place was Jerry Hayes with a nett 69 and Josh Garside 4th with a nett 71.
Night Golf
On 31st October we are doing a night golf event. This is always a lot of fun so get down to the pro-shop quickly to book a spot. If you haven't done it before and don't know what it is, basically we have a company come down and they light up the golf course in the dark using LED lighting.
Fairways are lit either side with white lights (it looks a like a runway!), greens are encircled with green lights and tees, bunkers and hazards are also lit up.
The balls are approved size and weight and will perform to about 90% of a normal golf ball. They contain 2 LED lights which illuminate when you hit them so you can see the whole flight of the ball through the air. Each player is given a different coloured ball and you are given spares (just in case!). The Night Golf Company have designed and supply their own unique flags. These flags have up to 100 LED lights to complete what is a visually stunning experience. Paths are also lit up with different coloured bright LED lights. The safety of golfers is the highest priority so only the safest walking routes are used and water hazards are avoided.
New Chrome Ball
Are your balls big enough?!
Chrome Soft with Truvis Technology takes a golf ball that has completely redefined performance and adds a proprietary visual technology to maximise your view of the golf ball.
The red and white Truvis pattern is specifically designed for better focus and visibility.
Basically the ball looks bigger down to an optical illusion.
New Mack Daddy Wedge
Sharpen up your short game with the new Mack Daddy 3! Callaway has unveiled the Callaway Mack Daddy 3 Milled wedge, which comes in three grinds, eight lofts and two finish options, giving you the best chance to find your perfect combination and we have it right here in the shop!
Offering Callaway's most complete wedge line up ever, the Callaway Mack Daddy 3 Milled wedge's unique grind and groove package will also cater for every condition, swing style and type of shot.
Crafted and shaped by Roger Cleveland, the new Callaway Mack Daddy 3 Milled wedge comes in a choice of three different grinds; S-Grind, W-Grind and C-Grind, as well as a Satin Chrome or a Matte Black finish option.
Milled grooves and laser micro grooves increase friction to add spin control, while a new Progressive Groove Optimisation system sees different groove patterns used for different lofts, which helps increase spin for added versatility and performance.
Lastly this week I would like to thank everyone for missing me while I was away on holiday!! Rose and I had a great time wandering on Dartmoor with our dogs but it's great to be back and I am looking forward to the coming weeks before the nights start to draw in!
