Rules of Golf Changes
As I am sure you are aware at the start of the New Year there are going to be some changes made to rules of golf. 4 changes are will be made in all, and we will go through 1 each week.
Prohibition on Anchoring the Club While Making a Stroke (Rule 14-1b) - As announced in May 2013, new Rule 14-1b (Anchoring the Club) prohibits anchoring the club during the stroke, either "directly" or by use of an "anchor point". The penalty is loss of hole in match play or two strokes in stroke play.
The long-awaited ban on anchored putting will take effect Jan. 1, 2016.
We are a bit unsure about the new ruling for every day golfers. We believe that for the pros on the tour it is necessary, but for the standard club golfer who gets the 'yips' and no other way of tackling it this ban seems a little un fair. If you fall into this category we have a new putter coming into the shop as a demo; the Odyssey Tank Cruiser #7 Putter.
Professionals Prize Draw
It's coming to that time of year when we start thinking about the Post-Christmas draw. In previous years I have given out prizes such as drivers, wedges and bags, but always have them brought back to change for something else.
This year I am going to be simply adding money to peoples accounts to save the hassle of exchanging your gifts. The prizes are shown in the image.
Odyssey Tank
Tank Cruiser is bringing out the BIG guns with a new level of fitting options in the most technological counterbalanced putter in golf. You're getting adjustable weighting in the head (to customize feel) AND at the counterbalance level (to customize stability) from a putter that's driven by Tour feedback. So you'll dial in your balance better than ever for your most consistent stroke.
Adjustable Counterbalance Design
Find the balance you like. The adjustable head weights (10g, 15g, 20g) allow you to adjust the head weight to 365g, 375g or 385g. The counterbalance weights (5g, 15g, 30g) let you to dial in your putter balance so that it's exactly how you want it to feel. Get ready for your most consistent stroke.
Tour Proven White Hot Insert
It's highly engineered for consistent sound, feel and performance across the striking surface. It's the #1 Insert on Tour and it's picked up victories all over the world.
New 15" SuperStroke Grip
A new longer version of the SuperStroke Grip, with Odyssey branding combining the fastest growing grip on Tour with the #1 Putter Brand.
Our Promise For Tank Cruiser Putters
An Odyssey Putter is a promise made. Sure, we design each of our putters to help you slay more demons and sink more putts. But we also design them to withstand any kind of punishment you can dish out and we back them up with an Odyssey assurance of quality. We rarely see a putter returned, but if you find a defect within a two-year period, we'll repair it or replace it. No questions asked. And that's a promise kept.
Great Big Bertha
Also new in the shop this week we have the Great Big Bertha, the biggest, longest Big Bertha yet and we have available for demo in the shop.
It Has:
- High ball speed from next gen R MOTO Technology. To get every last yard out of your driver, you need more speed. That's why we put in our Next Gen R. MOTO Technology. It provides the structure for a thinner face, leading to high ball speeds on centre hits and off-centre hits too.
- Head speed from a light, stable, multi-material chassis. This is the best combination they've ever had of an aerodynamic head shape and multi-material lightweight club design. It's the key to generating higher club head speed through aerodynamics and a wide range of weight classes available to suit every swing type, from 295 to 325g.
- Forgiveness and control from adjustable perimeter weighting. There's a 10g sliding weight on the perimeter of the club head. It is put there to add stability, and you can slide the weight for more dispersion control to hit your drives on line. You have virtually unlimited draw and fade bias options, more additional draw bias than ever before, and you get all of this without sacrificing forgiveness.
We are offering a driver challenge; have a go with your own driver then have a go with this. If you hit your own driver further we will give you 3 free balls. We're pretty confident we aren't going to lose any balls.
Last week the ladies took part in a Stableford competition. The field was split into two categories. In Division 2 Liz Dunckley came in 2nd place with 37 points as she was narrowly beaten by Gill Usher on a card play-off. In Division 1, Gill Mellor, Lynne Dicken and Carol Hulme all managed a very good 38 points. This however was trounced by Jill Morris' fantastic score of 41 points, to take division 1 and be the overall winner.
Saturday then came the turn of the men, they also played in a Stableford. Conrad O'Neil came in the 3rd place with 36 points which was beaten on a card play-off by George Senior who took 2nd place. But way ahead of the pack with a great score of 39 points was Ken Williamson. Well done to all our winners in last week's competitions.
